HOW LARGE A POOL TABLE SHOULD I BUY?

This is a question which must be answered before any other decisions can be made.  To assist you, we offer the following information.

Small pool tables and bumper or flipper tables can be a lot of fun: however, the larger the table the more challenging the game.  All pool tables are constructed on the principle of the length of the playing field being twice the width, which means that the mathematical configuration on shots remains the same.  Larger tables by increasing the distance the ball must travel to the pocket, increase the challenge.

Bumper tables and flipper tables normally use a 48" cue.  Flipper tables are also referred to as "three-in-one" game tables because they have a bumper layout inside with a reversible top for poker and dining.  Regular pool tables normally use a 57" cue, however, shorter cues can be used.

"Bar tables" are usually 31/2' x 7'.  The most popular home table size is the 44" x 88".  "Regulation" tables generally refer to 46" x 92".  5' x 10' and 6' x 12' tables are usually snooker or carom tables and use a much lighter weight 60" cue.  Snooker tables have a much smaller pocket opening than regular billiard tables and snooker is generally thought of as being a more difficult game.  Carom tables have no pockets.

In order to determine the largest table your room can accommodate, we have provided the chart below.  Locate the intersection of the lines between the table you would LIKE to have and the size cue normally used with that table.  If your room is within this general size range or larger, you have no further adjustments to make - just go pick out your table.

If your room is too small to accommodate the size table you want, you have three choices - buy the larger table and use a shorter cue - buy a smaller table - or knock out a wall.  If none of the above solves your problem, let us give you some personal assistance.
